Database Administrator
Location: Smart Village, Giza, with travel to client sites in Cairo, Giza and Alexandria.
Type: Full-time, on-site.
Reports to: Technical Manager.
About the role
You will own the databases that Stark Technology and its clients depend on: availability, performance, recoverability and security. The work spans steady-state administration and project delivery: consolidations, upgrades and migrations to cloud.
What you will do
- Install, configure and maintain database instances across client environments, primarily Microsoft SQL Server.
- Own the backup strategy and, more importantly, prove it. Scheduled restore and disaster-recovery testing, documented.
- Monitor and tune performance: indexing, query plans, blocking, capacity and growth planning.
- Manage security, access control, auditing and patching in line with client compliance requirements.
- Plan and run upgrades, consolidations and migrations, including to Azure and other cloud platforms.
- Support high-availability configurations such as Always On availability groups, failover clustering and replication.
- Keep runbooks and documentation current, and write clear post-incident notes.
What we are looking for
- Two or more years as a database administrator, in a managed-service provider or in-house.
- Strong Microsoft SQL Server administration and confident T-SQL.
- Real backup, restore and point-in-time recovery experience, not only configuring jobs.
- Working knowledge of Windows Server, storage and virtualisation as they affect database performance.
- Exposure to Always On, clustering or replication is an advantage, as are Microsoft or Azure database certifications.
- Experience with another engine. MySQL, PostgreSQL or Oracle. Is welcome.
- Good written and spoken Arabic and English.
- Willing to travel to client sites and to take part in an on-call rota.
